Battle ready Medieval Swords

Windlass Swords are forged from high quality, high carbon spring steel, tempered with the latest, most technologically advanced heat treating process available (the tempering and flex of these swords is amazing). These authentic sword replicas are made as well as or better than the originals. They look, feel, flex, and balance like the originals. All of these swords will stand up to swordplay, both stage combat and reenactments.

Please note: The swords in this section do not have a sharp edge.
Why are these blades not sharp? Aren't they meant for battle? History has shown us that a blade was traditionally not sharpened until the eve of battle. This occured for many reasons. First, a good sharp edge is inherently thin and therefore subject to much damage. Second, armourers found that grinding an edge exposed it to moisture and impurities in the air, and in spite of a variety of coatings for protection, would hasten the onset of rust. And finally, in this day and age, as much as we like to pretend, the need for a sharpened sword no longer exists and safety needs to be everyones concern.

We now offer a sharpening service for select Windlass Swords. You will be given the choice when placing your order. Having the edge sharpened may delay shipping up to one week.

W atch cutting video of the Windlass ULFBERHT Sword!
"I put this sword through a fairly decent test regimen. It included plastic bottles and jugs, and about 6 full size tatami mats. One set was a double roll of two tatami mats I had intended to use testing another sword. o I recommend this sword? Come on, you gotta be kiddin'! I absolutely recommend this sword to anyone who loves Viking swords." - Shootermike (AoV customer)
